Pandit Srikumar Chatterjee   is one of the greatest luminaries in the world of “Traditional Music” that Bengal has ever produced and has blazed a trail of glory in the last 45 years.

           He has revived the Traditional Bengali Devotional Shyamasangeet”, which faced the danger of extinction, by dint of his unique talent, as also his vast experience has established a totally different style of Gayaki completely his own, greatly enriching Bengali music, culture and heritage as a well-known “Shyamasangeet Acharya”.

           His musical training had started from his legendary father, as well as his “Guru”, Late Ramkumar Chatterjee in various forms of traditional Bengali music. He received classical talim in Dhrupad, Top-Kheyal, Toppa, Thumri from Pandit Damodar Misra of the “Benaras Gharana and Ustad Nayab Ali Khan of the “Khandarvani Gharana”.  

           Pandit Srikumar Chatterjee is attached with All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendra for more than 30 years, including National and UGC programmes, which has brought him great honour and success through performance of Traditional Bengali DevotionalShyamasangeet”.
           He has recorded many CDs, Cassettes and Video Albums from H.M.V., Saregama (Gramophone Company of India), Sony Entertainment Record Co. (Mumbai), Music India Record Co. (Polydor, Mumbai), T.Series (New Delhi), Biswas Records (New York, U.S.A.) and many other reputed record companies in West Bengal and India.
           His contribution to Bengali films has created a new genre of audience and has enriched the culture and taste of the same. At present, he is working as a Music Director in an exclusive documentary on the eminent musical celebrity of nineteenth century, ‘Gaharjaan’.
           “Lifelong contribution” and his excellence, creativity and dedication to the Art of Music has given him a “Real consciousness of Almighty God” which, in turn, has taken him to perform in various cities of India like Mumbai, Pune, Benaras, Allahabad, Hyderabad, Bangalore, New Delhi, Patna, Lucknow and many other places.
             In the course of his musical journey he has been to various areas of West Bengal, both urban and rural, to develop and spread awareness, also among the younger generations, of Traditional Bengali Music and Culture.

              Pandit Srikumar Chatterjee was invited and felicitated by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India at the “Commonwealth Games 2010” to perform Traditional Bengali Devotional Shyamasangeet” at Meghdoot Hall (organised by Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi).
             He was also Awarded “Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition” by FRANK J. GUARINI, Member of Congress (U.S.A.) and received “Citation” from GERALD McCANN, Mayor, Jersey City (U.S.A.). The President of the Senate, New York, (U.S.A.), JOHN F. RUSSO, paid him special tribute for his distinctive talent and effective efforts, which continues to build goodwill and understanding between INDIA and U.S.A.
              He has also been recognised by Ramkrishna MissionBelur Math, Baranagar, Narendrapur, Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre, Golpark (Institute of Culture, Kolkata), Agartala (Tripura), and many other branches. He has received numerous Awards like “Vivekananda Award” from Bharat Sevashram Sangha (New Delhi), “Sursagar” Award from Kolkata High Court Bar Association, “Michael Madhusudan Award” from Shyamal Sen (ex- Governor of West Bengal and ex- Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court) on behalf of Michael Madhusudan Academy (Kolkata), and from numerous other organisations in West Bengal as well as India.

              Pandit Srikumar Chatterjee is carrying forward the parampara of his father and his latest venture is “Dr. Ramkumar Chattopadhyay Sangeet Academy” to fulfill the task of preservation of Bengali music, culture and heritage, create an awareness of music as well as promote and facilitate musical training and provide “scholarships” for the needy and deserving students from all communities.
